Lecture: The True Value of the Jewish Community
How do we know what’s valuable? If the most valuable things are priceless, then why do we say “everything has its price?” In a transaction, does the monetary price capture all the worth or is there more left to interpret? And how do we put a value on being Jewish? Distinguished sociologist Robert N. Bellah, best known for his ground breaking Habits of the Heart, Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College, UpStart’s Toby Rubin and Stanford University’s Ari Kelman join in a provocative conversation about the inherent value of Jewish community beyond the dollar prices of Hebrew Day Schools, synagogues, camps and philanthropy. Cosponsored by Bend the Arc. Bend the Arc attendees qualify for a reduced ticket price of $12 to attend.
Cosponsored by: Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, Congregations Beth Sholom, Emanu-El, Sha'ar Zahav, Sherith Israel, JCF Business Leadership Council, Jewish Community Library, Northern California Board of Rabbis, Reboot, and the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.
