On January 16 through 20 in Joshua Tree, California, we held the opening retreat for our six-month interfaith Community Organizing Residency (COR). Through COR, Bend the Arc is creating a nationwide network of Christian, Jewish and Muslim organizers who learn the skills of their profession while also learning about each others’ faiths. COR residents support each other as they work in communities across the country.
Now in its third year, COR has grown to 20 residents in six cities: Washington, DC, the Twin Cities, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and the Bay Area. The 2013 Residents will organize in communities on issues that include immigrant rights, fair wages for workers, and affordable housing.
We continue to receive 100 to 150 applications each year from aspiring organizers, and chose an impressive and very diverse group again this year.
