Vigil for Sikh temple shooting“We are shocked and outraged at the tragic and violent act of hate in Milwaukee on Sunday, August 5. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the victims and the families of the dead. We honor the police officers who walked into the situation and brought it to a close.

“The Jewish community has known its fair share of discrimination and acts of violence. We also know that the bedrock values of the United States are stronger than the perfidious hatred of one individual or even one group. Freedom of religion and worship makes a stronger and more perfect union. We cannot and will not let a violent hate crime becloud that basic truth. The appropriate response is to proclaim loudly, as we do: ‘we stand with you. You are not alone in your suffering today, and you will not be alone in your celebrations in the future.’

“The Sikh community and all religious communities are part of the very fabric of this country. We will not abide discrimination, let alone violence, to rip at any part of that fabric.”

Bend the Arc Board Member Rabbi Aryeh Cohen
